Forward thinking IKEA acquires wind projects in Poland
Last month IKEA closed a deal with Martifer Renewables for 3 wind farms in Poland, totalling 56MW of installed capacity. All three wind farms are located in the Podkarpackie region in south-east Poland. Green Peninsula completed the Technical and Commercial Due Diligence for IKEA on this deal. This move by the international home products company allows them to meet the electricity needs of a substantial number of their stores and factories in Poland.
For further information on the deal see this article in Wind Power Monthly.
Poland is one of the fastest growing wind markets in Europe having more than doubled its installed capacity from 2008 to 2010. With an EU driven target to use 15% renewable energy by 2020, Poland currently meets most of its electricty demand from aging coal fired power stations.
