Companies can take comfort from ISO-9001 accreditation
ISO 9001 is the global benchmark for quality management. It details the steps necessary to adopt a Quality Management System (QMS) in line with the International Standards Organisation (ISO), local statutory and regulatory requirements. The main renewable energy equipment manufacturers have been at ISO 9001 standard for some years. After all, the leading renewable energy technologies of solar PV and wind turbines are accepted as being ‘mature’ equipment within the power generation world, with well-defined performance characteristics.
What is less common – indeed exceptional – is to find an adviser that has taken a quality approach to what businesses really need from the start of their involvement with renewable energy. Business managers need to make important early judgements on whether or not renewable energy can play a worthwhile part of a company’s business. If the picture is unclear, delay, uncertainty or bad decisions are likely. With clarity on the opportunities as well as the potential pitfalls, an informed decision is possible on whether or not to proceed. If the decision is ‘yes’ then a strategic review of the options can be completed quickly and efficiently. If the company’s strategy for clean energy gains approval, then a detailed action plan can be put in place to provide budgets, control, and clear targets.
Recognising this, Green Peninsula has put a management system in place that allows its clients to make their own decisions with the security of knowing that nothing will be overlooked. Green Peninsula has now received ISO 9001:2008 accreditation for the early stages of assessing business options in clean energy. We call each stage what it is: clarity; strategy; plan. We have been careful to enable a huge range of business options to be considered, so the ultimate decision by each individual client is supported, not restricted.
We are pleased to have the system independently recognised, particularly as our team led the way in the wind industry with the first ISO 9001 accreditation for Project Development over ten years ago.
